Umm, yeah . . .
It's been what . . . seven months since the last update? Half a lifetime ose trips and for Twinnie . . . yikes. It's funny how hard it is to keep up with various forms of web contacts - email, facebook, blogs, etc. We've been reasonably good about posting pics on Picasa and Facebook, but not so good about updating the blog.
So . . . in these months we've taken a couple of trips and marked a few milestones. Twinnie started walking at about eight and a half months (mid-January) and she is just about up to a dead run now. She's talking a little bit, but seems to understand far more than she speaks and she really seems to have made the transition from baby to toddler. It is astounding how much they grow in a year.
We took a week-long trip in March down to Big Bend and then just a few weeks ago we traveled to Hawaii for a family wedding. Each of those trips really deserves a separate post or two - add them to the list of things that need to be memorialized . . .

Stand in the place where you are . . .
Twinnie's encore to crawling came quickly. She's started standing with the help of props as shown in this video from last night. Mostly, her progress seems to come from watching other kids and wanting to do what they do.
Twinnie Crawls
This week, Twinnie put together some moves she had been working on and managed to crawl across the floor of our den. She did it a couple of times, but we'll only saddle you with the first twenty or so seconds . . .

So much for frequent updates . . .
Well, it has been a really long while this time - so much for frequenting updating. Sometimes so much water flows under the bridge that there is a feeling of responsibility to try to document all of it before you can get to current events - not that it is much of an excuse, but it is all I've got.
In any event, I am now twelve days into being a dad. Antoinette Jean was born on Mother's Day. So far, so good. We went to the pediatrician today and Twinnie weighed in at 8 lbs., 7.5 ounces. That's nearly a pound up from where she was last Friday and over a half-pound above her birth weight. Twinnie isn't exactly sleeping through the night, but she's doing well. She'll eat every hour or so later in the evening up until eleven or midnight - but then she'll sleep for four or five hours. That gives the both of us a pretty good break.
Gramma is in town this week and next and has been a great help. Among other things, her presence has allowed me to go back to work with the peace of mind that Kara and Twinnie are being looked after during these first few weeks.

Ick
Okay, it has been a woefully long time since the last post. All is well. The Wallaces' visit last month was great. Then we were up in Washington state for Labor Day weekend - we spent a day in Seattle (including a visit to the original Starbucks at Pike Place Market and drinks at the tower club, high above Seattle); then we spent a few days at Shaw Island in the San Juan Islands (via ferry) and a few days down at Silver Thistle in Winlock. A whirlwind trip indeed - and an opportunity for Rich to meet nearly all of Kara's extended family .
This past weekend we celebrated Rich's 40th birthday with a trip through northern New Mexico and a small party at home. Actually, it started out as a trip in southern New Mexico in a Ford Focus that jittered so bad that we couldn't think straight, but we retooled and ended up camping by the side of the Rio Grande in the Rio Grande Gorge near Arroyo Hondo and Taos, well off the beaten path.

The Wallaces are coming, the Wallaces are coming !!!
Well, it has been a fairly busy week or so if it has taken us this long to post. Sorry about that. All is well here. We finished off Kara's birthday by riding out to Granbury on Friday afternoon. Granbury is an old town that is southwest of Fort Worth and has a beautiful town square and one of the few remaining drive-ins in Texas, the Brazos. The trip was great (and a surprise for Kara), but the movie was marginal - Pirates of the Caribbean II. Rule: no action/adventure movie should exceed two hours in length - ninety minutes is preferable. Pirates clocked in at two and a half hours and had an abrupt, annoying ending. Ick.
Anyway, the real news is that the Wallaces are coming next week. Better news is that the case that was consuming most of Rich's time and was set for trial on the 14th of August, settled earlier this week. Had that case gone to trial, Rich wouldn't really have had any time to spend with Kara's family.
The house is a bit of a wreck as we try to shoehorn two homes into one little house - but we're going to give it a go this weekend - we just have to figure out where to start . . .
